ANDALE, Kan. (KAKE) - The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office has identified a 70-year-old man who died after his home-built helicopter crashed near Andale.

Lt. Nathan Gibbs said Vincent Faber, the pilot and sole occupant, was from Andale.

First responders were called at around 8 a.m. July 5 to the crash near a pond in the 5700 block of North 255th Street South. Crews arrived to find the RotorWay Scorpion 133 on fire in the middle of a soybean field.

Hensley said the person who reported the crash said it appeared the aircraft was having engine issues.

"The FAA is on scene doing their investigation along with the sheriff's department and the NTSB will be out here soon to figure out what's going on," Chief Hensley said Friday.

The National Transportation Safety Board said an investigator was expected to arrive on scene Saturday morning.

"Once on scene, the investigator will begin the process of documenting the scene and examining the wreckage," the agency said in a release. "NTSB investigations involve three primary areas: the pilot, the aircraft and the operating environment."

Any witnesses or anyone with surveillance video or other information relevant to the investigation is asked to email the NTSB at [email protected].

A preliminary report will be available within 30 days, and probable cause of the crash along with any contributing factors will be detailed in the final report, which is expected in 12-24 months, the release said.
