WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Like many Americans, the Fourth of July has a special place in Kaden Beeson and his family’s hearts, and this year, they learned something that made them even more excited.

"I was just like, let's go buy some big stuff. Spent a lot of money," said Beeson.

He’s talking about the fact that you can now buy and shoot big aerial fireworks in city limits, so he and his family decided to ditch the big shows this year and have their own show right outside their front door.

"The bigger the better in my opinion. I mean, that's how we do it. More legalization. That's all we like. That’s what we like around here," said Beeson.

Nearly the whole neighborhood joined in, with people gathered, watching, and shooting from just about every driveway.

Beeson says his favorite part is seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces, and he hopes the tradition of skipping the commercial fireworks shows and spending time at home with family will continue in the neighborhood.

"It's just not as meaningful. When you're with your family, it's just all better."
