WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State alumna, Paula Garcia, was selected to race on Spain’s 4x100-meter relay at the 2024 Paris Olympics after winning the 100-meter title at the Spanish Championships.

Garcia won her first national championship in the 100 meters, running 11.46 in the final to claim gold.

The Madrid, Spain native holds the Wichita State indoor 200-meter record and ranks in the top-10 all-time at Wichita State in the indoor 60 meters, indoor 400 meters, outdoor 100 meters and outdoor 200 meters. She also ran on the third-, fourth-, and eighth-fastest 4x100-meter relays in Shocker history and ran on the 4x400-meter record-breaking relay in 2019.

Garcia graduated from Wichita State in 2022 and has continued to train and compete in Spain.

She is Wichita State’s 12th Olympian or Paralympian and is one of six Spanish athletes selected for the 4x100-meter relay pool. The first round of the 4x100 begins Aug. 8 at 3 a.m. CT, and the final will take place on Aug. 9 between noon and 3 p.m. CT.
