BARBER COUNTY, Kan. (KAKE) - Energy company Southern Pioneer restored power to residents in Barber County Tuesday morning after electricity was shut off due to an oil spill that occurred Monday.

On their Facebook page, Southern Pioneer said that oil from a well near Hardtner coated electric lines, causing them to trip. The outage affected customers in an area around Hardtner and Kiowa.

Southern Pioneer said that power was restored around 8:30 Tuesday morning through a temporary bypass line. Crews will make permanent repairs when it is safe to do so.

K-2 was closed west of Kiowa, from Northstar Road to US-281, due to the oil well blowing out across the highway. Around 3 p.m. Wednesday, the Barber County Emergency Management Facebook page said the highway was reopened to traffic.
