WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A 29-year-old Wichita man has been sentenced to 19 years in prison for stabbing a woman in a downtown Wichita alley nearly three years ago.

Elam stabbed a then-22-year-old woman during the early morning hours of November 22, 2021. Officers said the woman was walking to her vehicle when Elam approached and stabbed her before running down an alley. The woman suffered a non-life-threatening stab wound to her stomach.

At the time of the stabbing, Elam was on parole for two cases of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

Elam was found guilty of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated battery in the case in May.

In addition to his sentence, Elam must also register as a violent offender.

Elam has two more felony cases set for jury trial on August 5, including battery against a law enforcement officer, and traffic in contraband in a correctional institution.
