WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A young man has died after he suffered extremely critical injuries in a crash while racing in southwest Wichita.

Deputies responded just before 10 p.m. Wednesday to an injury accident at K-42 and Ridge Road. Sgt. Matt McElwee with the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office said a group of motorcycles was heading east on K-42 when one of the riders attempted to race.

The motorcycle hit an eastbound vehicle and left the roadway. The rider, identified by the sheriff's office as Bradley Buhr of Wichita, was unresponsive and taken to a local hospital.

"Street racing is pretty prevalent out here. I think this just goes to show the extreme dangers of that," Sgt. McElwee said.

Lt. Nathan Gibbs with the sheriff's office said early Thursday afternoon that Buhr was still critical but "not expected to make it." He was pronounced dead a few hours later.
