WICHITA, (KAKE) - With fireworks sales beginning on Thursday, Sedgwick County is preparing to open its non-emergency phone line for noise complaints.

Beginning Sunday, June 30, residents can call (316) 290-1011 to report nuisances like fireworks, parties and excessive noise. The phone line is staffed from 6 p.m. until 3 a.m. through Saturday, July 6.

"This line is designed to take calls that do not involve a threat to life or property and allows 9-1-1 dispatchers to focus on actual emergencies," the county said.

The county fire department said each city determines its own rules when fireworks can be discharged and what kinds are allowed. For example, some aerial fireworks that are legal in Maize are not legal in other cities in the county.

Residents are encouraged to buy fireworks where they plan to shoot them. Click here for a list of cities and dates to legally buy and shoot fireworks, or check with the municipality for specific fireworks regulations.
