WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Exploration Place broke ground Thursday morning on their new destination playscape.

The museum says the playscape, introduced earlier this year, will open in the fall of 2025 with 10 different playgrounds for all ages, focusing on aviation.

The playscape will have interactive elements of the Flight Adventure, Foggy Flint Hills, Agriculture Overlook, Sunflower Meadow, Water Play Cascades and Bison Hill. The play structures will have a Beechcraft Staggerwing biplane, an explorable Cessna Citation business jet, a rocket ship connecting to the Ad Astra motto, great bison, towering stalks of wheat, a combine harvester and more.

In March, Exploration also broke ground on its new 20-acre riverfront property: an amphitheater overseeing the Keeper of the Plains

Exploration Place says the whole playground is being designed with accessibility in mind for guests of all ages and abilities.

After 403,543 Exploration Place visitors in 2023, the museum says with the arrival of the destination playscape, they anticipate climbing to an annual count of 1 million visitors.
