OTTAWA COUNTY, Kan. (KAKE) - The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Saturday morning at a Minneapolis park.

The KBI said that at 8:30 a.m. the manager of the Minneapolis Swimming Pool heart three gunshots at Markley Grove Park. About five minutes later, the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office and the Minneapolis Police Department was dispatched to the scene. While officers were investigating, more shots were fired.

The Kansas Highway Patrol arrived to back up the officers on scene and the suspect fled, firing shots at the officers who then returned fire and hit the suspect multiple times. 

The suspect, 46-year-old Artemis Peck was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

Shortly before 10 a.m. the KBI was informed of the shooting and said, "The KBI will conduct a thorough and independent investigation into this shooting. Once completed the findings will be presented to the Ottawa County Attorney for review."
