WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Police say a 15-year-old has died after being hit by a car in southwest Wichita on Wednesday night.

The Wichita Police Department says emergency services received a report of an injury accident near 44th St South and Hoover just after 8 p.m. Wednesday.

When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they located 15-year-old Daniel Collier of Wichita with critical injuries from the collision. He was transported to a nearby hospital where police say he was pronounced deceased.

A preliminary investigation suggests that Daniel was riding a bicycle when a 35-year-old Wichita woman struck him. The driver, who was not identified, remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with the investigation, according to police.

Police say investigators are diligently reviewing all available evidence to understand the events leading up to the crash.

"Incidents like this have a profound impact on our community and first responders alike," police said in a release Thrusday morning. "WPD encourages all drivers and pedestrians to remain cautious on the roadway as temperatures continue to rise and more people are outside."

This incident marks the 17th traffic fatality of 2024.
