GODDARD, Kan. (KAKE) - A 47-year-old Wichita man has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting a teenager at the Walmart in Goddard.

Ruben Contreras made his first court appearance Wednesday and was charged with attempted first-degree murder. He remains jailed on $300,000 bond.

Sedgwick County deputies responded at around 5 p.m. Saturday to a call involving a weapon at the Walmart at 18631 West Kellogg Drive. They arrived to find an 18-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound in a vehicle in the parking lot. The victim was transported to the hospital in serious condition, and his condition has since improved.

Contreras remained on scene when law enforcement arrived and was taken into custody. The sheriff's office has not said what led up to the shooting.

Contreras' next court date is scheduled for May 28.
