(KAKE) - New court documents say one of the suspects in the murders of Veronica Butler and Jilian Kelley told law enforcement she was responsible for the deaths of the two Kansas moms. This comes one day after the suspects first appearance at an Oklahoma courthouse on Wednesday.

The motion to hold the defendants without bail writes Tifany Adams, the paternal grandmother of Butler's two kids, "provided a recorded statement to law enforcement indicating her responsibility for the death of the deceased."

Adams is one of four suspects arrested and charged for the two murders. The others are her boyfriend Tad Cullum, and Cora and Cole Twombly. They are being charged with two counts for first degree murder, two counts for kidnapping, and one count for conspiracy to murder.

Investigators say Adams and Butler had been in a problematic custody battle for years. According to the affidavit Butler was scheduled to have a hearing for unsupervised visitations with her two kids on 4/17.

In the legal documents District Attorney George Leach argues the suspects be held without bond because the four have shown they will take any violent measure to protect themselves.

The documents go on to say the Twombly's have a history of violent interactions and they pose a grave danger to witnesses and community members.

Since there's reason to believe the community wouldn't be safe if they were on bail, proof of guilt is evident, and first degree murder is a capital offense the suspects are able to be held under the Oklahoma constitution.
