WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - The Wichita School Board has voted 5 to 2 in favor of closing six schools due to budget cuts.

The district and school board have been getting community feedback the last couple of weeks with listening sessions and a public hearing where people could share their thoughts and concerns regarding the closure.

Wichita Public Schools is facing a $42 million budget shortfall. When deciding what areas to cut, it says it wants to prioritize its people over places, so it is recommending the school board to shut down six schools. Jardine and Hadley Middle Schools and Clark, Cleaveland, Park, and Payne Elementary Schools are set to close at the end of this school year.
