Jessica Mackey's weekend turned into a nightmare Saturday night when her car was stolen and hit by a train in south Wichita.

"I was devastated," Mackey said. "Uncontrollably devastated."

A Wichita Police sergeant said the incident was reported around midnight on railroad tracks on K-15 – between Harry and Pawnee. A train was driving at a slow speed and collided with her vehicle, the sergeant said. Neighbors said they heard a loud crash.

According to Mackey, the incident with the car stemmed from another incident around midnight Saturday. She said her ex boyfriend was over at her house.

"He was being somewhat aggressive, me and my sister were trying to go somewhere and he jumped into my vehicle," Mackey said.

So, she and her sister got into her sisters car, but she said he still came after her.

"He struggled to pull me out of the vehicle and um, apparently I dropped my keys in the struggle," she said.

Mackey said he threw a bicycle threw her window and took her car. It ended up on the train tracks in south Wichita where it was hit by a train. When investigators arrived, they found a driver had left the vehicle. The vehicle was seriously damaged. There was no evidence that leads police to believe a person was hurt.

According to Wichita police's notes from the investigation emailed to KAKE News, the vehicle stolen "was determined to be the same one involved in the train vs. vehicle collision." In the same notes it describes officers responding to a domestic violence call around midnight as well.

"At approximately 12:35 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a domestic violence report. The investigation revealed that a known 39-year-old male battered a 38-year-old female.  The male obtained the keys to the victim’s vehicle and took it without permission."

Wichita police said in the notes an arrest was eventually made regarding the domestic violence issue. They were dispatched to another issue at around 7:45 a.m. at the same address as the call at 12:35 a.m. The suspect involved in the original case was arrested for simple batter/domestic violence.

This case is still under investigation.
