Guests at the Sedgwick County Zoo will soon be able to go into the tortoise habitat and get a hands-on experience with some of the world's largest tortoises.

The Aldabra tortoise encounters begin Saturday and will be scheduled for 2 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $35 for each zoo member and $40 for non-members.

Participants will learn what it takes to care for animals of their size, feed them their favorite snacks and maybe even challenge them to a slow-motion race. Find more information here

The tortoise encounter is the second "Wild Encounter" since the zoo launched penguin encounters last September.
