A man has been sentenced to more than 100 years in prison for killing a 3-year-old Wichita boy whose remains were found encased in concrete

Judge Steve Ternes on Monday sentenced 41-year-old Stephen Bodine to a total of 1,314 months -- 109.5 years -- for convictions that include first-degree murder, child abuse, aggravated child endangerment and two counts of kidnapping. Evan Brewer's remains were found inside a block of concrete at a south Wichita home in September of 2017.

Prosecutors say that Bodine and Evan's mother, 37-year-old Miranda Miller, tortured the boy for months before his death, including chaining him naked in a basement and forcing him to stand in a corner for hours.

The boy's father and two aunts spoke at Bodine's sentencing hearing.

Miller previously testified against Bodine in exchange for the chance to plead guilty to a lesser charge of second-degree murder as well as aggravated kidnapping, child abuse and aggravated child endangerment.

Bodine's sentence breakdown (will run consecutive):

    • First-degree murder - Life without parole for 618 months
    • Kidnapping - 618 months
    • Child abuse - 34 months
    • Aggravated assault - 31 months
    • Child endangerment - 7 months
    • Criminal damage to property - 6 months
