The Butler County Sheriff's Office says a the driver of a semi that crashed into a vehicle, killing one person and injuring another, failed to yield before making a turn.

The crash happened at around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 400 in Leon. Sheriff Kelly Herzet said the semi was heading east and turned into Leon Grocery. A westbound Ford escape was unable to stop and collided with the semi. 

David Powell, 80, was a passenger in the Ford and died at the scene. The driver, Shirley Powell, 80, was hospitalized in Wichita with serious injuries. They are from Longton. 

The semi driver was not hurt. 

The investigation is ongoing. Sheriff Herzet said no citations have been issued at this time.
