Kansas woman found dead after car pulled from floodwaters
Authorities say the body of a 78-year-old woman who was the subject of a statewide Silver Alert has been found after her car was pulled from floodwaters.
The Miami County Sheriff's Office said Friday morning that the body of Hazel Phillips was found in her car south of Paola. Deputies were called there for the report of a vehicle in the water.
The sheriff's office said the floodwaters had receded, showing the roof of Phillips' 2008 Chevy Malibu. The car was removed from the water and Phillips' body was inside. A cause of death is under investigation.
The woman's family said she planned to travel to Drexel, Missouri on Wednesday, but she didn't arrive at her destination. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation issued the Silver Alert Thursday.

Hazel L. Phillips went missing from her home in Miami County. Her family believes she planned to travel to Drexel, Missouri on Wednesday, but she did not arrive at her destination.
Phillips drives a silver 2008 Chevrolet Malibu with Kansas tag 450HLB. It is unknown what Hazel is wearing. She stands 5-foot-6, weighs 120 pounds, has brown hair and green eyes.
The Miami County Sheriff's Office says Hazel may be suffering from medical conditions, which could be a safety concern for her. Hazel may be in the Paola or Osawatomie area.
