Arkansas City police and Kansas Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal accident that left one person dead.

The accident occurred in Arkansas City near East Madison avenue and the U.S. 77 bypass on Monday at approximately 3:45 p.m.

Police say 66-year-old James H. Jones was riding a motor scooter, heading west bound on Madison crossing the bypass, when his vehicle was struck by a truck heading westbound. Crash logs show that 68-year-old Robert D. Juden from Windfield was driving the truck. Juden was turning left onto the bypass when he struck Jones.

Jones was transported by ambulance to South Central Kansas Medical Center where he later died of his injuries. Juden did not suffer any injuries.

KHP is investigating the accident.
