A Hutchinson High School freshman is hoping to make the holidays special for hundreds of teenagers.

Michael Bower is trying to collect enough gifts to make the holidays special for not only teens, but kids of all ages too.

Bower has already collected a box full of presents, but it's nowhere near the amount of gifts he needs to gather for kids this Christmas.

"I would like to give each child at least one present, " Bower said.

Bower is 14-years-old, and for his Eagle Scout project he's taking on a big responsibility.  He hopes to give families that can't afford gifts, a Christmas to remember.

"I realize there are families that don't get to have Christmas at all, so I wanted to help them out," he said.

For his project he reached out to First Call for Help, an organization that's been assisting people Reno County for more than 30 years. The agency lists 900 teens registering for First Call for Help's Teen Christmas, and he doesn't have a lot of time left to collect all 900 toys.

"It's extremely challenging, because we only have three days to collect. Last Saturday and then Saturday and Sunday at Walmart," Bower said.

Karrah Bishop is the youth pastor at the church Bower attends. Karrah says the church fully supports Bower's toy drive and even has a drop off box at the church for donations.

"I have so much respect for him because organizing such a huge project for one person is a lot of work. I know because I've done something similar before. So I just want to give him the support he needs to reach his goal," Bishop said.

Bower will be at the Walmart at 1905 E 17th Ave, Hutchinson from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, October 28th and Sunday October 29th collecting gifts for kids.
