Behind every special team there's always a special person or group giving that little extra to be a team player

When it comes to Maize High volleyball it comes from a pack of six.

Autumn Hanna, Ashlyn Lakin, Kaitlyn Blume, Juliana Ledbetter, Lexi Montana and Maddie Baumer lead the charge.

"We're all competitive in a way that anything that we do, whether it's a game or in school, or just messing around with each other, we're all have the drive to win and it's really fun because it gets interesting and aggressive," outside hitter Maddie Baumer said.

This group of athletes do know how to put on a show on the floor, but they believe what makes them special is their bond.

"I think it's super important that we're best friends on and off the court, and that really shows when we play," setter Julianna Ledbetter said.

The results speak for themselves. 20-plus wins this season after missing the state tournament last fall for the first time in seven years.

Next up they head to sub state for a shot at battling their way back to Topeka for the state tournament a place they know they'll need to play their best.

"When it comes to postseason every game counts. There's no easy game. We're pushing hard through every game, every point," setter Lexi Montana added.

Whether they reach their ultimate goal or not this team has already won in the eyes of their coach.

"There really just aren't words. I love them," coach Betsy Manning concluded.
