Two people have been charged in connection to the shooting death of a local semi-pro football player.

Dakahri Saunders, 18, was arrested Monday and booked for two counts of criminal possession of a firearm by a felon, two drug counts and one count of contempt of court. Ritchie Randle, 18, was booked Sunday for first-degree murder.

Both were charged Tuesday and remained jailed on $500,000 each. Saunders' gun possession charges stem from a prior aggravated battery case.

The two are accused in Saturday afternoon's shooting death of 19-year-old Timothy Golden, a tight end for the Kansas Cougars.

The shooting happened at an apartment complex near Kellogg and McLean. Police say three people had gone to the area and fired more than a dozen rounds into the apartment, killing Golden.

"He was a very energetic kid. He had his whole future in front of him," said Cougars Head Coach Darrell Nave. "I saw him as being somebody who's going to have a breakout season next year because he just wanted to be a better athlete,"

The investigation is ongoing, and investigators are working to identify and arrest the third suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers at (316) 267-2111.

Golden's death is Wichita's 20th homicide of 2017.
